Bough

"Bough," Acrylic on Board, 24x36"
Though I did do a daily painting today, I don't like it as much as the large piece I just finished (above).  I read on Wikipedia that native americans used to bend the saplings of live oak trees to make trail makers.  Might account for some of the more dramatic formations we see today?

Yellow and Red

I love the composition and color scheme in this painting.  Plus, I'm starting to find the right balance between graphic/rendered for the figures.

I'm enjoying doing these little portrait studies.  I think this one is particularly successful.  If I hold back on overworking the skin, it has a nice luminous quality.

I was surprised to see how the sentiments on the heart candies have changed since my day...

Blue

I was so happy with yesterday's painting that I decided to try another in the same colorful, graphic style.  It reminds me of the way that Erin Cone treats figures, though hers are more realistically rendered.

I'm glad I got anything done today, as I'm pretty sure I'm coming down with a cold.  Bleh.

Wolf Mask

I'm happy with today's daily painting for three reasons:
  1. I got to do another figure painting (something I'm enjoying more and more).
  2. I was able to use a color scheme that I've been wanting to 'borrow' for quite a while.
  3. I got to include my wolf mask.

Sketch of Lin

The cold and the associated school closures have made it hard for me to get much studio time these past few weeks.  I'm happy to say that I got a bit of time today, so here's a new daily painting.  I'm working up to doing a new entry in my Figures in Landscape series.   I love the way the light reflects off of her hair.

Merengue

"Merengue," Acrylic on Board, 20x16"
I was off to a slow start in February, but I'm finally making some progress.  Here's another dancing tree.  There was no question that the dance was latin, but I debated on the final title.  I'm open to other suggestions, if anyone can think of a better fit.  I'm loving the colors -- I guess I'm anxious for spring and an end to the cold weather.

I had did another painting this week, but was unable to finish it to my satisfaction.  It's unusual for me to not finish -- I can only think of two other painting in the last 5 years that I didn't finish.  That's not to say that all of the ones I did finish were perfect, but at least I considered them 'done'.  I'll look at it again in a week or so to see if it can be salvaged.

Rainbow Rings

"Rainbow Rings," Acrylic on Panel, 5x7"
This looks like something you would see on the bar in a would-be cool night club.

Pitchers

I wanted to make the title a joke on the old adage "little pitchers have big ears," but I restrained myself.  You're welcome.

The pitchers look strangely elongated, but that's how they were -- maybe for serving martinis?

Glasses with Blue

Yes, I was that strange woman you saw taking photos in the home department of Anthropologie.  I was killing (waiting to meet a friend for lunch) and noticed the large array of multi-colored glasses.

Do you think corporate provides a handbook for how to lay out each of the displays or do they leave it up to the people at the stores?  Is it someone's job to design the way each new glass set should be displayed to generate maximum sales?  I'm guessing yes.  The things I think about...
